On Twitter, djWHEAT said that as a cat owner, he is “very upset” about Alinity’s stream. The Twitch director said that although he doesn’t have moderation powers, hypothetically he would ban Alinity from Twitch for 30 days, ask her to do an awareness stream that raises money for an animal abuse charity, and after her ban is over put her on 90-day probation. The probationary period would have a “no tolerance” policy, explained djWHEAT, which means that if Alinity was to “mess up” again she would be banned.

DjWHEAT’s hypothetical suggestions got huge support on Twitter from those concerned about Alinity’s actions. There is a petition for Alinity to be banned and those signatories of the petition may be happy to know that one person high up in the Twitch hierarchy agrees with them.

However, djWHEAT explained that he thinks that everyone should just “let the Twitch Moderations Teams do their jobs,” saying that they are working on the case. “Just because they don’t tweet you play by play doesn’t mean they aren’t hard at work 24/7,” said djWHEAT. The Twitch director also asked people not to harass him about issuing a ban, something which he is unable to do.

It doesn’t seem as though djWHEAT ’s tweets have stopped everyone from being upset at the Twitch moderation teams, however. Some tweets criticized the moderation teams for seemingly dragging their heels. The teams have handed out bans much quicker in other cases, such as the Twitch streamer banned for passing out drunk on stream, or the streamer banned for streaming while driving. They would like Alinity’s punishment, if Twitch is to hand one out, to be handed out quickly.

For Twitch, cases like Alinity will be a double edged sword. Twitch has such a large audience that it’s easy for the community to quickly publicize and latch onto things like this. If Twitch doesn’t act quickly, it will be criticized but if it hands out a punishment the community feels is light or isn’t harsh enough, it will also be criticized. It’s unclear how close the teams are to handing down a decision, though many will be glad to know where one person at Twitch stands.
