Twitch, which accidentally leaked the new PS5 event date this morning, has been around since 2011 and has gained a massive following in that time. The website primarily focuses on live streams of video games, music, esports, and “in real life” content.

Many Twitch streamers incorporate background music for gags or entertainment while playing, however, this now causing issues. A large number of streamers have received threats to ban their accounts for the music used in clips from the past, some ranging as far back as 2017.
One Twitch streamer by the name of “Fuslie,” who streams games like League of Legends and has over 280,000 followers on Twitch, took to Twitter to showcase the copyright claim against her channel. Fuslie has informed her followers that she is currently in contact with multiple Twitch staff members who told her that the best option for her is to delete all previous 100,000+ clips from her account.
A different Twitch streamer named “JakenBakeLive” who specializes in “in real life” content also posted a similar notice on Twitter and was given the same advice. He claims how impossible it is to go through the high volume of videos and watch all of them to make sure there is no music. To top it off, Twitch has been having issues loading clips from a couple of years ago, preventing these streamers from even accessing the clips in question.
Twitch has also come to Twitter to issue a statement saying, “This week, we’ve had a sudden influx of DMCA takedown requests. This is the first time we have received mass DMCA claims against clips.” The employees claim that they are working diligently to come up with new ways for content creators to control their clips to prevent this from happening again. However, threatening to ban streamers out of nowhere and ruin careers that users have spent years building is genuinely uncalled for, and Twitch, hopefully, will find a way to solve this issue quickly.
