Chelsea Goal Keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga went down with cramps - for the second time in the game and Sarri gave instructions to Willy Caballero to get ready. With the Argentinean waiting by the sidelines to come on, Kepa openly defied his manager and refused to come off. He just stood in his place and waved towards the bench in disapproval.
While the rest of the world watched in disbelief, Sarri and Kepa continued their argument over the length of the field. Referee Jonathan Moss walked up to the Spaniard, heard his statement and then had to converse with Sarri, who was visibly infuriated. It was a moment that seemed to take away the tempo and intensity from the Chelsea players, who had been brilliant so far and had the upper edge in the game by that point.
Caballero took his place on the bench and Kepa resumed in goal. Maurizio Sarri paced by the sidelines steeped in wrath and at one point looked to be heading to the dressing room in frustration. However, he controlled himself and returned back to his seat. Unfortunately, the whole incident had a sorry end, as Chelsea lost the game 4-3 on penalties.
Kepa and Sarri have both since clarified that it was a simple case of misunderstanding, but that has not stopped Twitter from providing some great reaction. Today, we bring you some of the best tweets here.
Almost everyone felt Kepa was at fault.
and that he would face Sarri’s wrath soon..
Many were of the opinion that the Captain should have taken a stand
While others felt for Cabellaro
and even Kante, who had a great game..
